Open House September 20, 2014 from 11am-1pm

IHEM jpgOn September 20, 2014, from 11am – 1pm, we’ll be holding an open house at 1806 Clover Lane, Champaign, to answer questions about starting or expanding your urban gardening & homesteading practices. After over a decade of experimenting, our standard city lot has come to produce many of the vegetables consumed during the growing season, with enough left over for preserving. Recently added chickens & rabbits have further expanded production and has been a strong compliment to the organic and permaculture approaches being explored. This event is being held as part of International Homesteading Education Month. We’ll have some handouts available with tips to get started or to take the next step, and we’ll have the books we’ve used along the way to find new approaches on display. We have a Facebook event at: https://www.facebook.com/events/635971799851677

As an added bonus, at 1pm, our house will be the first stop on the C-U Tour de Coop: Champaign-Style. Bring your bike and ride along with us on this guided tour of four backyard chicken coops in Champaign. You’ll be able to learn more about the new ordinance that allows folks to keep backyard hens in Champaign, and to talk with local chicken tenders about their flocks. The Facebook event page is at: https://www.facebook.com/events/1503724553203324

Hope to see you at one or both of the events.
